The prolonged suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s nightly program has fueled broad urges for a protest against the entertainment conglomerate and various major media groups.

Boycott efforts escalated after the broadcaster stated it would halt broadcasts of the series following complaints from FCC leader Brendan Carr.
The appointee, who was named by the former president this year, called Kimmel’s comments as “deeply offensive” and asserted ABC of violating its regulatory obligations.
Additionally, Nexstar Media, which controls numerous network channels, stated it strongly objected to Kimmel’s monologue and would block scheduled episodes.

At the same time, right-leaning broadcaster Sinclair revealed it would run a tribute for the activist during Kimmel’s typical programming block.
Sinclair also demanded Kimmel to make a formal apology and donate to Kirk’s family and his political advocacy group.
Public coalition 50501 spearheaded appeals for a boycott, stating that the removal was a act of official suppression.
“Censorship isn’t coming,” they stated. “Now it's Jimmy. Next it could be the rest of us.”
The group also pointed out that corporations like Sinclair and Nexstar may have reasons to accept FCC influence due to upcoming transactions.

Calls to boycott the company spread on social media such as BlueSky, with commenters using hashtags like #BoycottDisney.
A commenter on social media suggested that within Disney concerns were growing over likely viewer backlash and wider protest impact.
Journalist Brian Stelter published a reply from Carr that included a mocking image from a series, which some viewed as unprofessional.
Governmental and Organizational Statements
Ex-President Trump reacted favorably to the news, describing it as “A Positive Development for America” and applauding ABC for ending the program.
Elected officials called for the removal of Carr, while First Amendment organization Pen America condemned the suspension as an act of suppression more typical of authoritarian regimes.
“This marks a concerning new level of capitulation,” Pen America said.
