Individuals of an Italian clan of thieves who stole more than £1.2 million worth of goods, among them from ex- Newcastle United striker Isak, have been mandated to pay back just £1 each.

Siblings Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo, their sister Jela and her son Charlie travelled to the north-east of the UK to raid three houses in spring 2024.

The foursome were imprisoned for between a decade or less in 2025.

At a criminal assets proceeding at the court, Jela and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie must pay over a thousand pounds.

Particulars of the Break-ins

The judge previously heard the group came by ferry in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2024 and used a RV as their "base of operations", which they parked at a service area and Durham rest stops while using a separate vehicle to scout out properties and execute thefts.

On 31 March they took over one million pounds of items including designer clothing, handbags, jewellery and a CBE medal from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, while the owners were away.

The following night, the crew entered a house on a private road in Whitburn, and stole luxury bags, jewellery and shoes valued at more than £100,000.

After scouting out Newcastle United's training ground for 48 hours, they then struck at the residence of Swedish striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking £10,000 in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds valued of jewelry and the striker's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by the prosecution as experienced itinerant burglars, wore hand coverings and masks, switched their phones on silent as they approached their objectives and strapped a number plate, which had been stolen from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their vehicle with elastic bands.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Court Hearings and Sentencing

Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to the burglary plot but was convicted by the court, while his family members had all submitted admissions to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime session, prosecutor the prosecution said every one of the burglars had profited from their crimes to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was based on what the affected parties said they had lost.

But Charlie was the sole individual deemed to have any funds that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had already been seized by police, the court was informed, with 14 days to be served in jail if he failed to pay.

The remaining members had no assets or assets so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 per person, with one week in incarceration the result if the sum was not submitted.

Judge Spragg said if they were discovered with assets in the coming years, "for example driving around Italy in a fast car or owning a property", prosecutors could seek further action to "recover the sum due".
