The Tottenham defender scored twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at both ends of the field

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and time to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs box.

Everton: Moyes' men head to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
