Political Leader Mourned
The statesman, who had been a major force in the country's governance for many years, passed away on Wednesday at 80 years old while in hospital care in the subcontinent.

Thousands supporters assembled on thoroughfares from dawn, with chaos occurring when massive group broke through a barrier at the city's central arena, prompting soldiers to fire in the air.

Previously that day, numerous of supporters temporarily invaded the city's air terminal, interrupting a ceremony where the nation's leader and other officials were accepting Odinga's remains with formal recognition.
This situation caused a temporary halt of aviation services.
Crowds also flooded adjacent streets and tried to enter the legislative building, where the government had originally scheduled the open visitation.
National Heritage and Community Support
While predominantly identified as an political challenger, Odinga assumed the role of head of government in 2008 and also established a political pact with the president last year in a political journey marked by changing partnerships.
He inspired intense commitment among adherents, especially in his ethnic group based in western Kenya, many of whom maintain he was deprived of the presidency by electoral fraud.
Many of Odinga's mourners, who were not yet born in 1991 when Kenya transitioned to a multi-faction governance, paid tribute to Odinga's efforts as an advocate.
